How Does HBOT Work?

During your appointment, HBOT patients are placed in a special chamber where the air pressure is increased to two to three times higher than normal atmospheric pressure. This helps the lungs to gather more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at a normal air pressure. The blood then carries this oxygen throughout the body, helping to promote the release of growth factors that may help aid in healing.

Uses of HBOT:

HBOT is used to treat a variety of medical conditions, including:

Decompression Sickness: Often known as "the bends," this condition occurs in divers who surface too quickly.

Serious Infections: Particularly those that are difficult to treat with standard methods.

Chronic Wounds: Such as diabetic foot ulcers, pressure sores, and non-healing surgical wounds.

Radiation Injuries: Damage to tissues resulting from radiation therapy for cancer.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: HBOT may help remove carbon monoxide from the blood.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): May aid in the recovery process by improving oxygen supply to the brain.

Benefits of HBOT

  • May Accelerate Wound Healing – One of the most common benefits of HBOT is its ability to speed up the healing process of wounds. By increasing the oxygen supply to damaged tissues, HBOT may help promote the formation of new blood vessels, help reduce inflammation and enhance the body’s natural healing mechanisms. This is particularly beneficial for surgical wounds to help accelerate the healing process post-surgery.

  • May Improve Cognitive Function – HBOT has been shown that it may help improve cognitive function and support neurological recovery. The increased oxygen supply to the brain may help repair damaged neurons and improve overall brain function. This therapy may easily be incorporated into your treatment plans for conditions such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, concussions, and certain neurodegenerative diseases.

  • May Reduce Inflammation and Pain – In many chronic conditions, inflammation is a common underlying factor. HBOT may help reduce inflammation by decreasing pro-inflammatory cytokines and increasing anti-inflammatory markers. By reducing the pressure caused by swelling, HBOT may help reduce pain by promoting tissue repair.

  • May Enhance Immune Function – Increasing oxygen levels in tissues may help white blood cells fight infections more effectively, which is why this therapy is highly recommended for any post-surgery patients or patients that may have a compromised immune system. HBOT may help boost your immune system to help recover from a possible infection or help prevent infections.

  • May Support Athletic Performance and Recovery – More athletes and fitness enthusiasts are looking into ways to help enhance their performance and speed up recovery times. The increased oxygen supply may help reduce muscle fatigue, improve endurance, and accelerate the healing of sports-related injuries. By reducing inflammation and promoting faster recovery, athletes may return to their training and competition with improved performance levels.

  • May Assist in Detoxification – In today's environment, our bodies are exposed to a myriad of toxins, from pollution to chemicals in our food and water. HBOT aids in detoxification by increasing oxygen levels, which may help the body break down and eliminate toxins more efficiently. This may lead to improved energy levels, better skin health, and overall enhanced well-being.

  • Skin Health and Anti-Aging Benefits – The benefits of HBOT extend to skin health as well. Increased oxygenation may help promote collagen production, enhance skin elasticity, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. This natural approach to skincare makes HBOT a popular choice for individuals seeking to enhance their appearance and maintain youthful skin.
